Carla King is the author of American Borders, a travelogue about her solo-circumnavigation of the United States on a Russian sidecar motorcycle.

Carla pioneered the art of the realtime Internet travelogue with the American Borders dispatches in 1995, followed by China Road (1998) and Indian Sunset (2000), on each trip riding a different vintage motorcycle. She also sent dispatches from motorcycle journeys around Italy (2001) and the Adriatic (2005). To read them, visit her dispatches page.

Carla started writing about travel in 1988 while she worked as a technical writer in Lyon, France. In 1993 she penned a mountain-biking guide to the Alpes-Maritimes, then left for a four-month bicycle trip through West Africa. Since then she's published stories about motorcycling, bicycling, kayaking, scuba diving and travel technology in a variety of print and online magazines, and has been featured in publications from Escape Magazine to Cybergrrl @ Work, and radio and television shows including ZDTV's Internet Tonight, Boston's The Wild Wild Web, and the BBC Europe.
