For the best food and prices try eating in small bistros crowded with Parisians
where there are no English translations on the menu. Consider the menu
prix
fixe offering as it is usually a great deal and offers two-to-four courses
with
wine.

This is an expensive restaurant - but well worth the splurge. It is simply
the most beautiful restaurant I have ever been to. The dining rooms are adorned
with spectacularly large bouquets. Everything is done to perfection, from the
smallest detail to the most grand. The food is out of this world!

Open 24 hours a day and no reservations… however, waiting in line can
be fun and I have met some interesting people this way. Sitting outside is
my favorite, but since it is air-conditioned, sitting inside is not too bad
on
those hot Paris nights. It has become a tradition to have dinner here at least
once on every trip. The onion soup and pig's feet made it famous. They also
serve excellent shellfish.

This used to be the headquarters of the Carpenter's Guild, and has interesting
old photographs of guild members on the walls. The simple home-style food is
excellent. My choice is always roast duck with green olives.

Great place for lunch or a drink. Plenty of artistic types hang around
here. Take a table outside and enjoy the constant parade of people passing
by.

Located on an island in the middle of the Seine, this restaurant
is worth the trouble of getting there. Beautifully situated, with
a wonderful garden running
right into the Seine, hence the name "feet in the water". The menu
is large, with an emphasis on fresh fish. The house itself is rather like sitting
in some one's private dining room. During the warmer months, dinner is served
on the terrace.

A local favorite since it opened in 1845. Little has changed over the years in
the way of decor and the home-style food has always been fabulous. Along a back
wall is an antique cupboard with tiny drawers where regulars store their linen
napkins. I particularly enjoy their spinach salad dressed in walnut oil and the
fragrant roasted chicken with fried potatoes.

With full effulgence of 1885 Belle Epoque and Tiffany glass decor, this is
a beautifully charming place. The food is traditional and excellent. The wine
list has some outstanding choices, including that treasured pink from Provençe,
Domaine Ott. Put this on your "must visit" list. |
