Our
hotel window looked out onto the old port of Marseilles. A picturesque
but noisy area, and also very warm, we were grateful
that the hotel had double-paned windows and air conditioning.

flea market - a 10€ taxi ride from town, was full of fresh
produce, baked goods, and a jumble of flea market-style wares in
a mostly Arab market.

Jacqueline's
friends Michele and Elisabeth Enyier live in Marseille.
They took us out on their sailboat on a tour of the islands near
the city and, docked in a calm bay, we're having a glass of
champagne to celebrate Jacqueline's birthday in style!

has over thirty small pretty ports tucked into nooks and crannies
all over the city, giving many areas the feeling of a small port
town rather than one of France's most bustling cities.
